Ivan Elbert Allen, 94, died August 13, 2003 at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center. Services will be held Monday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ackworth Friends Church, Ackworth, Iowa. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola.

Ivan was born to Jobe and Nettie Allen on October 24, 1908 in Ackworth. He lived in Warren County most of his life and graduated from Indianola High School and William Penn College. He retired as a rural mail carrier in 1969 after 25 years of service and had been postmaster at Ackworth 13 years previously and also farmed. He will be remember for the popcorn stand on the north side of the square and a portable popcorn stand at the high school football games and at county fairs.

He was a member of Ackworth Friends Meeting, Indianola IOOF Lodge #70, Rebekah Lodge #111, Patriarch Militant Order, Warren Encampment #20, and was a Grand Master of Iowa Grand Lodge in 1969-1970. Lodge work meant a great deal to Ivan and Eddis. They traveled many miles to meetings all over the United States and made many friends.

He is survived by a son, Jack Allen of Torrance, CA; daughter, Jean Labertew of Indianola; stepdaughter, Ruth Ellen Riley of Redmont, WA; stepdaughter-in-law, Irene Houghtaling of Indianola; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eddis in 2000 after 55 years; two grandchildren, Bart Allen and Judy Kay Labertew; two step-children, James Houghtaling and Marie Moffitt; three sons-in-law, Clarence Moffitt, Ross Riley and Jim Labertew; one daughter-in-law, Lue Vara Allen.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Odd Fellows services will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday evening. Memorials may be made to Ackworth Friends Church.
