Neva N. Gass, 81, loving wife, mother and Granny, passed from this life on November 3, 2012, in Johnston, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with interment following in Glendale Cemetery.

Neva was born in Yale, Iowa on May 2, 1931 to Ernest and Cecile Hanysh. A graduate/valedictorian of Yale High School, she moved to Des Moines and taught at AIB where she met her future husband.

Neva is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Darrell J. Gass; seven children, Pamela Murphy of Urbandale, Pat Mason (Don Rollins) of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeffrey M. Gass (Fran) of Urbandale, Joel Gass (Mary) of Urbandale, Theresa Zingerman of Omaha, NE, Marcia Toth of West Des Moines, and Jason M. Gass of Des Moines; one sister, Melva Couchman of Cape Coral, FL; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant child Mary Elizabeth.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Special thanks to Mercy Hospice for their loving care. Contributions may be made to: St. Pius X Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Habitat for Humanity.
