Services for Donald Bruce Criswell of Indianola, IA who passed away peacefully from complications of multiple myeloma on Sunday, September 23, 2012 surrounded by family at his home, will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Cremation will follow services with burial of cremains at a later date.

He was preceded in death by his father Myron Criswell and wife June Criswell.

He is survived by his wife Glenda Criswell of Indianola, IA, mother Mary Criswell of Indianola, sister Barb Opheim (Kent) of Waterloo, IA, brother, John Criswell (Chris) of Indianola, his three children: Jennifer Troutman (Brandon) of Indianola, Brent Criswell (Brydie) of Tipton, IA, Alison Smazik (Matt) of Arlington Heights, IL, his two step-children: Trevor Campbell (Amber) of Indianola, Terrah Taggart (Seth) of Iowa City, IA and his seven grandchildren: Connor and Audrey Troutman, Henry and Violet Criswell, Autumn and Tessa Campbell, and son of Alison (Matt) Smazik.

Bruce was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 8, 1953 to Myron and Mary Criswell, was raised in the First United Methodist Church of Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School in 1971. From an early age he was an avid Hawkeye fan and attended the University of Iowa, was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1978.

Bruce was a loving and caring husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His passions in life included his faith, spending time with his family and friends, cheering on his Iowa Hawkeyes, fishing in Canada, golf and Pete's Pizza. Bruce received great joy from providing care to his dental patients, came to know his staff as family and valued the friendships that formed over his 34 years in dentistry. He was a member of the Iowa Dental Association and frequently gave of his time to help dental patients in need.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 27 at the First United Methodist Church with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. The family requests that memorials be given to the Bruce Criswell Memorial Fund to help establish the Multiple Myeloma Foundation of Iowa.
