Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 9-2-2012:

Lorraine Curtis McNeer, "LC" or "Nifty" to many friends and family, was born October 17, 1920 in Lucas County, Iowa to Avery and Iva (Curtis) McNeer.

Nifty passed away at Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola on September 1, 2012 at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola with burial in the Norwood Cemetery in Lucas County, Iowa. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Lorraine graduated from Norwood High School in 1939. He was a good athlete, especially in baseball, and somewhere during the years earned the name "Nifty" which remained with him throughout his life. Lorraine married Bertha Trunnell on August 31, 1941 in Princeton, Missouri and returned to their farm in Lucas County where they lived until moving to Indianola in 2008. On August 31 of this year they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary with friends and family at Good Samaritan. Lorraine was a farmer in Lucas County which was all he wanted out of life. He loved the land, the crops and especially his Black Angus cattle. Even as his health declined and he could no longer farm the land he still kept his cattle, selling them just days before the big ice storm of 2007 and considered his timing on that just right. Lorraine is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bertha of Indianola; Brother in law Neil Schreiber of Indianola; Nieces Pam(Gene)Wadle of Lacona and Loretta Block(Fiance Mel Schampers) of Seymour, Wisconsin; Nephew Tom(Baja) Shannon of Chariton, and many friends and neighbors, although Nifty often said he had outlived many of those. Nifty was preceded in death by his parents and sisters in law Chloris Cackler and Iola Schreiber. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa.
