Carl Leroy Hircock, 93, of Chaffee, MO, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial with military honors will be in the Winterset Cemetery at Winterset.

Carl was born and grew up in Winterset and was a 1932 graduate of Winterset High School. He served in the US Army during WW II. Carl was a mail carrier and owned and operated a small engine sales and repair shop in Winterset.

Carl is survived by his son, Martin R. (Mary) Hircock of Perkins, MO; brother, Roger Hircock of Winterset; sister, Esther Mae Rogers of Grimes; two grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lannie and Lois Hircock; wife, Belle Lorraine Hircock; his second wife, Maxine Kirk-Joy; a brother; and two step-granddaughters.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation.

Carl L. Hircock, 93, of Chaffee, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 9, from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Rev. Kevin and Rev. Sue Blader officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Winterset Cemetery at Winterset. Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation.
Carl was born on Feb. 4, 1919, at Winterset to Lannie Russell Hircock and Lois Emmaline (Clark) Hircock. He grew up in Winterset and was a 1932 graduate of Winterset High School. In May of 1941, Carl joined the United States Army.
While on leave from the service, he married Belle Lorraine Roach on Oct. 15, 1941, at Bethany, Mo. Carl was sent overseas in February of 1942 and during a battle with the enemy was captured and spent approximately three years as a POW. He participated in the Algerian-French Morocco, Tunisian, and Central Europe Campaigns and was awarded three bronze stars for those campaigns along with a Good Conduct Medal. On his return to Winterset, Carl became a mail carrier and owned and operated a small engine sales and repair shop. He enjoyed antiques and playing cards and had been a member of the First Christian Church and V.F.W. Post #8142. Belle died in 1983 and a short time later Carl married Maxine Kirk-Joy. A few years after Maxine’s death in 1996 Carl moved to Missouri.
Carl is survived by his son, Martin R. (Mary) Hircock of Perkins, Mo.; brother, Roger Hircock of Winterset; sister, Esther Mae Rogers of Grimes; grandchildren, Brian T. (Mimi) Hircock and Chad M. Hircock; step-granddaughter, Deborah Wierschke; and great-grandchildren, Daniel Hircock and Joshua Hircock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lannie and Lois (Clark) Hircock; wife, Belle Lorraine Hircock; his second wife, Maxine Kirk-Joy; brother, Russell Irwin Hircock; and step-granddaughters, Lora Cook and Mary Ann Chapman.
