Lilas "Lila" LaNelle Roberts was born at home in rural Milo, IA to Lester and Alice (Conn) Hollingsworth on October 6, 1928 and passed away at Westridge Nursing Home on May 13, 2012. She graduated from Melcher High School in 1946 and moved to Des Moines to begin her career in banking before moving to Great Falls, MT in 1949.

LaNelle married Verne Roberts on November 30, 1950 in Great Falls and they later returned to Dallas where she chose to raise her family. Following her divorce, she moved to Des Moines and returned to the workforce at Methodist Hospital, the Federal Reserve and finally as a housekeeper and care giver.

LaNelle loved to cook, finding and trying new recipes, dancing at the Val Air Ballroom and she enjoyed her flower gardens. She will be remembered as a very independent woman who was resilient and resourceful in providing for her family. LaNelle will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Curtis Thompson; brother, Donald as well as extended family members.

LaNelle is survived by her son, Terry "Ted" Roberts of Melcher-Dallas and daughter, Cheryl Fowler of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Dyann and Dana Roberts of Des Moines and Michael Krause of Phoenix, AZ , sister, Norma Borchert of Newton as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
