Jane Elizabeth Rogers Godwin was born February 20, 1923, to Everett M. and Madeline (Metz) Rogers on the family farm near Carroll, IA. She died June 4, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines of complications following surgery. Visitation will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, June 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with services following at 11 a.m.

Jane grew up in the Carroll community and in 1944 was graduated from Simpson College in Indianola. While at Simpson, she met Arthur LeRoy (Roy) Godwin. They were married December 17, 1945, and became the parents of five daughters.

Jane taught special education in the Indianola schools for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and many community organizations. She has left a legacy of family history through her genealogy research and writing.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband Roy and brother Everett M. Rogers. She is survived by her daughters, Joanne (Ray) Walton of Indianola, Janet (Randy) Knoll of Stillwater, MN, Mary Lou (Ken) Sargent of Northfield, MN, Nancy (Bob) McGranaghan of Kansas City, MO, and Sally Godwin of Cresco, IA. She is additionally survived by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Lois Godwin of Indianola; brother, James (Mary Lou) Rogers of Garner, IA; a large extended family and many treasured friends.
