JOHN THOMAS MCMANUS

John Thomas McManus was born in Wapello County, Iowa, January 15, 1861, died in Des Moines, August 13, 1920.

When John was 4 years of age his parents came to Churchville where he grew to manhood. In 1887 he entered service with the Great Western railroad company which was then building to Kansas City, as a section hand, and had risen to the position of road master, a position he held until a few years ago.

In 1896 he and Miss Anna McDonald were united in marriage in Chicago, and came to reside in Conger, Ia. The family came to Des Moines about 11 years ago. He was the father of three children, all boys, namely; Hugh E., aged 21, John D., aged 15, and Joseph who died in infancy.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Churchville by Rev. J. J. Condon and the body interned in the Churchville cemetery.
