Ruth A. (Nuzum) Dawson was born on a farm in Madison County, Iowa on 24 February 1893 and died on January 4, 1984 in West Des Moines, Iowa.

“Prayer Service held for Ruth Dawson”

“ A prayer service for Ruth A. Dawson, 90, of 4213 46th St., Des Moines, was held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Indianola 1.0.0.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Dawson died of cancer Wednesday at the Hillhaven Convalescent Center West in West Des Moines.

Born on a farm in Madison County, she moved to Gladbrook in 1906 and was graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1911. She lived in Des Moines and Wick before moving to Indianola in 1922. She moved to Des Moines in 1970.

Mrs. Dawson owned and operated a beauty shope in Indianola from 1929 to 1956. Her son James Willis Dawson, died in an automobile accident north of Indianola in 1934. Her husband, Kyle, a longtime Indianola barber, died in 1970. She was member of the First United Methodist Church of Indianola.

Surviving are one son, Kyle J. Dawson of Des Moines; one grandson, Douglas Dawson of Des Moines; one granddaughter, Mrs. Dana L. Taylor of Des Moines; and three great-grandchildren.”
