“Kyle J. Dawson, 92, died October 10, 2009, at Wesley Acres Care Facility in Des Moines. He had lived with his wife of 66 years, Dixie Marie (Davitt) in Des Moines since the end of World War II.

Born in Des Moines March 16, 1917, Mr. Dawson grew up in Indianola, and graduated from Simpson College. He served proudly in the U.S. Naval Reserve where he commanded a Mine Sweeper in support of American troops taking back enemy-held islands in the South Pacific during WWII. Following his Active Duty, be remained active in the Naval Reserve and attained the rank of Captain.

With equal pride and dedication, Mr. Dawson worked in the Planning Department of Bankers Life Co., now known as the Principal Financial group, for 41 years, and was instrumental in installing the first computer system in that agency. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife Dixie: his son, Douglas (Glenda) of Des Moines; his daughter, Dana (Michael) Taylor; and grandchildren, Douglas Dawson, Jr. of Des Moines, Ryan Dawson of Iowa City, Lee ((Joseph) LaRue of Little Rock, AR, and Jonathan Taylor of Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, Kyle Dawson; his mother, Ruth A. (Nuzum); and brother Willis Dawson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with Vogo; at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 15 at Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 16 at 100F Cemetery in Indianola.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Indianola High School or Simpson College in Indianola. Iles Westover Chapel 6337 Hickman Road.”
