“John Grant Died Suddenly Sunday”

“John Grant, ages 70, died suddenly Sunday. He had picked up Frank Zeigler to take him to Des Moines, drove up to the James Cafe and left Mr. Zeigler there while he drove into the Sinclair Station to have his tires checked. He slumped in his car and died. The body was taken to the Burr Funeral Home, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 . The body was taken to New Virginia for burial.

He was a retired farmer having lived here the past 24 years. He is survived by his son, Carl, a member of the Des Moines fire department; two grandchildren and four brothers, W. N. Grant, Indianola, Ia.; Donald Grant, Altoona, Ia; Everett Grant, New Virginia, and George Grant Des Moines.”

John Alexander Grant was born on 30 Apr 1873 in Homer, Illinois to George Walker Grant and Lilly McPherson . He moved with his parents to a farm near New Virginia when a boy. John married Anna "Annie" Agnes Jamison on January 17, 1900 in Mitchellville. To this union one son Carl Jamieson was born.
