Her health had been failing for the past year, but she was stricken with a stroke about two weeks ago.

She had spent most of her life in Polk county until the past nine years she had lived in Packwood, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Donald Grant in December of 1902, and to this union two children were born, Lloyd, who passed away early in life and one daughter, LaVeda Ohland of Altoona. Mr. Grant passed away in February, 1945.

She had been a member of the Christian church for many years and had worked with the church until the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Albert Nelson in September of 1948, in Des Moines.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Mr. Nelson, one daughter, LaVeda, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, two stepsons, Roy Nelson, of Kansas and Cecil of Packwood, also one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ralph Neff of Packwood, two step grandchildren, a large number of nieces and nephews, a host of friends and many others.

There is no death. Those gone before

Have just stepped through an open door

Just passed into a land unseen,

Still near, with just a wall between.

The door may close, the wall conceal

But nothing’s lot that’s truly real,

They still are ours, those loved ones all

They wait for us beyond the wall.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 6, at the Methodist church in Packwood with burial and graveside services at the Altoona cemetery that afternoon.

Graveside services were conducted by Rev. John Piper of the Christian church. Pallbears were nephew, Carl Grant, Glen Alga, Russell Spencer, Cliff Custer, Dewey Barton and John Jay Custer.”
