DONALD W. GRANT

Donald Wallace Grant was born in New Virginia, Iowa May 21, 1880, and passed away in his home at Altoona, Iowa, February 18, 1945 at the age of 65. Most of his life was lived in Polk County,

For one year he was a barber in Bondurant. In 1913 with his family he moved to Altoona where he worked at his trade for 20 years. December 25, 1902 he was united in marriage with Ella V. Custer. Two children wre born to this union, Lloyd, who died October 2, 1928, one daughter, Laveda Ohland, of Altoona.
He united with the Bondurant Church of Christ in 1907, and later transferred his membership to the Altoona Church of Christ. He was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father and a true sincere friend. He leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, Ella Grant, one daughter, Laveda Ohland, of Altoona, two grand children, three brothers, other relatives and friends.

Have just stepped through an open door
Just passed into a land unseen,
Still near, with just a wall between.
The door may close, the wall conceal,
But nothing’s lost that’s thuly real;
They still are ours, those loved ones, all
They wait for us beyond the wall.’

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 21, at 2:30 o’clock in the Altoona Church of Christ, Rev. E. W. Elliott of Des Moines officiating assisted by the pastor, Rev. Gilford Olmsted. Music was furnished by the Crow sisters, of Des Moines, with Mrs. R. H. Burget as pianist. Pallbearers were: B. Delaney, G.M. Hartline, C. W. Stuart, P. J. Renaud, L. B. Lee and J. C. Mason.

Interment was made in the Altoona cemetery.”
