Obituary
Artemisia C., wife of Rev. E.O. Buxton, M.D., died at Carlisle, Warren County on Sunday, December 13. Thus early terminated a life of exceptional goodness and usefulness. Mrs. Buxton was a native of Noble county, in the state of Indiana, where she was born, October 18, 1861. Her parents moved to Iowa in her girlhood, where her home has been ever since. In 1878 she was united in marriage with the husband who is now left to mourn her loss. During a good part of her married life, hers was the lot of a helpmate of a clergyman in the itinerant work; and faithfully was that enormous part performed by her. They had only recently settled themselves in a pleasant property at Carlisle, and every prospect seemed pleasing, when she was taken with the illness which carried her off. Mrs. Buxton had friends all over the state, who will hear of her departure with deep sorrow. She was prominent in the order of Good Templars, having been grand treasurer from 1889 to 1891. When only 19 years old she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, whence her membership was transferred, upon her marriage, to the United Brethren Church. In church and Sunday school she was a faithful and judicious worker. Two children, one a babe of twelve months, one left motherless, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, of Ogden, survive her, although in feeble health. Indeed it was in attendance upon them that she contracted the disease, typhoid fever, of which she died. The funeral occurred at the U.B. church at Carlisle, Rev. L.H. Cook, her pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. George Miller, E.E. and Rev. Mr. Given. The pall bearers were ladies, viz: Mesdames L.H. Cook, Adam Hickabaugh, E.W. Patterson, Will Harding and E.G. Berck and Miss Eva Buxton. The remains were deposited in the cemetery at Avon.
