Services for Robert W. Bowery, 88, who passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at home will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2008 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Indianola.
Robert was born in Knoxville, Iowa, graduated from Beech High School and continued his education graduating from Simpson College at which time he also served as Warren County Youth For Christ Director. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII returning to Warren County to farm with his father. In 1955, he went to work with the IRS as a field agent retiring in 1981. In 1987, he and his wife Rose spent two years in the Philippines working for World Relief. Since 1989 they have wintered in McAllen, Texas. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in McAllen.
Survivors include his wife, Rose; children, Constance Lea (Conrey) Combs of Ankeny, John Robert (Nancy) Bowery of Shenandoah, IA, James Alan (Jan) Bowery of Stevenson, WA; foster son, William James (Lorena) Nutting of Edinburg, TX; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Nathan) Sheets, Richard (Chrystal) Thomason, Melissa Sawyer, Robert James Bowery, and Rachael Rose Bowery; and 4 great grandchildren, Sarah, David, Matthew, and Elijah Sheets.
Visitation will be held 5 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family in his name. On Line condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com .
