Ival E. Smith
Ival E. Smith was born January 7, 1927 to Earl E. and Florence (Wood) Smith, in the Motor community near Milo, Iowa. He attended Motor country school and the Milo High School graduating and immediately entering the army in May 1945, serving in occupied Germany until 1946.
In January of 1947 he entered William Penn College. On December 28, 1947, Ival married Geraldine "Jerry" Howe. To this union, 4 children were born, Kenneth, Keith, Kevin and Karma. Ival farmed in Warren County his whole life, Mostly in the Motor area on the Smith Century Farm. During this time, he also worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 13 years, and various other jobs to help support his farming habit!!!
As a birth right member of the Motor Friends Church he served in various capacities; Sunday school teacher and superintendent, member of Ministry and Council, Trustee, and Stewardship committees. At Camp Quaker Heights he was a Cabin Father and a member of the Iowa Quaker Men. He was also an active member of the Gideon's for many years.
Ival supported the 4-H activities of his children and belonged to Warren County Farm Bureau.
After his "retirement" he began working as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Many of you may remember his stories or jokes as he greeted you. Ival also volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels, Hospice of Central Iowa, and Red Cross. After leaving the farm and moving to Lacona, he continues these activities and added harassing the cooks at the community center meal site.
Frequently visiting Ken, Lila and boys wherever they served and to the Bronx, New York to see Karma, Marvin and family were a high priority on Ival & Jerry's travel plans. Other favorite adventures included the Western States, Branson, St. Louis, Mackinaw Islands and a Caribbean cruise.
Ival E. Smith passed away November 10, 2007 at the Westview Care Center of Indianola, Iowa, his residence since June, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Florence, and one granddaughter Amanda Roberts.
Ival is survived by his wife Jerry; 4 children, Kenneth & Lila of Burr Oak, Kansas; Keith & Nancy of Milo; Kevin & Janet of Lacona; and Karma & Marvin Roberts of Bronx, New York. Three brothers, Lyle(& Edna), Marvin, and David (& Barbara). Fourteen grandchildren Jeffrey, Jeromy, and Jason Smith; Christy (Clint) Fitch, Chad (Nicole) Smith, Cathy (Jody) Miller; Brandon Smith, Bryan (Jenny) Smith, Beckie Smith, Andy (Becky) Schurman, Wade (Sherri) Schurman; Joseph Roberts and Lydia Roberts, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 10:30 at the Motor Friends Church, Milo, Iowa. Interment was in the Motor Cemetery, Milo, Iowa. Casket bearers were his grandchildren and grandchildren-in-laws.

Funeral services for Ival E. Smith who passed away November 10, 2007 at the Westview Care Center of Indianola, his residence since June, 2007, will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14 at the Motor Friends Church, rural Milo, IA. Burial will follow in the Motor Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
