Mable Elizabeth Nutting Spear
Rural Indianola, Iowa

Services for Mable Elizabeth Nutting Spear, 96, who passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Kavanagh House on Grand in West Des Moines, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 15 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mable was the daughter of H.W. and Elizabeth (Dennis) Nutting, born August 21, 1911 near Milo. She attended Milo school, Simpson College and Iowa State College. On May 11, 1932, she married Cyril Duane Spear. Mabel’s loves were her family, her home and music. She was a member of the Green Plain United Methodist Church where she was the pianist and organist for many years. She also was a vocalist for many occasions in the community. In 1963, she was honored to be named an Iowa Master Homemaker. Mable had lived in her farm home southeast of Indianola for 69 years and then at The Village in Indianola since September 2007.

Mable is survived by her children, Edith (Merrill) Henry, Edna (Larry) Lester, and Marvin Spear all of Indianola, and Janice Goode of Lacona; grandchildren, Craig (Jeannie) Henry of Huxley, D. Lynn (Claire) Henry, Brad (Beth) Henry, Steve (Jeri Le) Henry, Layne (Geri) Henry, Lacy (Michaela) Lester, Kerry (Marlene) Lester all of Indianola, Lee Anne (Larry) Shiller of Zionsville, IN, Chris (Sharon) Lester of Kansas City, MO, Laura (Mike) Tobey of Clive and Tim (Corinne) Goode of Des Moines; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; and brother, Eldon (Jeanette) Nutting of rural Indianola. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cyril; sister, Evelyn Kunau; and brothers, Herbert and Kenneth Nutting.

The family wishes to say thank you for the many ways and many people who were a part of Mable’s recent years and days. She was truly blessed by your special touch.
