Funeral CardCharles Richard "Dick" Weeks was born, the son of Carl and Grace Weeks on November 8, 1940 in the Medford area and he passed away December 24, 1998 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 58 years.
He attended the New Virginia Schools and graduated with the class of 1959.
He was united in marriage to Janice Wilkins August, 1, 1958 at Osceola, Iowa and they raised four beautiful children; Lanny, Carmen, Lonnie and Sheila.
Dick played fast pitch softball for Gibs A&W where he was the home run king. His kids would run across the street and get a free ice cream after dad had hit the home run. He was the Coach for Lanny and Lonnie's Little Baseball teams. He coached for 11 1/2 years.
He worked for the Iowa D.O.T. for 38 years as an Equipment Operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Lanny Weeks in 1994.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Janice of New Virginia; his children, Carmen Sue Buchman of Ankeny. Lonnie Weeks and Glenda of Perry, Iowa. Sheila Weeks of Des Moines, Iowa; three lovely grandchildren, Teia Renee, Ashley Nicole and Landen Charles; brother Wayne Weeks and wife Bonnie of New Virginia, Iowa; sister, Shirley Mann and husband Curtis of St. Charles, Iowa; brother, Jim Weeks and wife Leona of Indianola, Iowa; brother Bill Weeks of Indianola, Iowa; sister Sheryll Morris and husband Monty of New Virginia, Iowa; sister, Sharon Ferguson and husband Dennis of Altoona, Iowa as well as other relatives and a host of friends.Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 12-27-1998:
Charles Richard "Dick" Weeks, 58, of New Virginia died of cancer Thursday at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, with burial at New Virginia Cemetery in New Virginia.
Mr. Weeks, a lifelong resident of New Virginia, was a retired equipment operator with the Iowa Department of Transportation and a member of Medford Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; two daughters, Carmen Buchman of Ankeny and Sheila Weeks of Des Moines; a son, Lonnie of Perry; three brothers, Wayne of New Virginia and Jim and Bill, both of Indianola; three sisters, Shirley Mann of St. Charles, Sheryll Morris of New Virginia and Sharon Ferguson of Altoona; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m.
