Larry Gilleland, 65, of Lacona died Thursday, March 30, 2006. Funeral services were April 2 at the Liberty Center Methodist church with burial in the Liberty Center Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 26, 1940 the son of Cresslie Kellogg and Helen Elizabeth (Nellis) Gilleland in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1960. He married Bonnie Leeper March 25, 1960.

He worked for many years for Armstrong Tire, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to travel.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children; Julie Steil of Lacona and Larry Jr. of Lakewood, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two brothers; Norman of Packwood, Wash. and Duane of Winterset.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southwest Warren Athletic Boosters.

Funeral services for Larry Gilleland, 65, will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 3 p.m. at the Liberty Center Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Liberty Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Memorials may be made to Southeast Warren Athletic Boosters.
Cresslie Kellogg and Helen Elizabeth (Nellis) Gilleland were proud parents of a son, Larry Cresslie, born on October 26, 1940 in Winterset, Iowa. He grew up in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School. Larry was very proud to have served his country in the United States Navy from October 1957 to October 1960. He married Bonnie Leeper in Des Moines on March 25, 1960 and to this union were born: Julie and Larry, Jr.
Larry worked for many years for Armstrong Tire and retired in 1989. He appreciated the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing or working on the farm with his cattle. Larry enjoyed his time he had to travel, especially to Arizona in the winter. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. He was liked by all and became a dad to a great number of people, family was his number one priority.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie; children, Julie Steil (Ed) of Lacona and Larry Gilleland, Jr. (Barb) of Lakewood, Co.; five grandkids, Eddie and Angie Steil, Hailey, Hannah and Garrett Gilleland; brothers, Norman Gilleland (Helen) of Packwood, WA and Duane Gilleland (Carolyn) of Winterset; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pierschbacher Funeral Home and Cremations Services are handling Larry's arrangements.
