SHOOK, MICHAEL G., farmer, Richland Township, Sec. 13; P. O. Hartford; the subject of this sketch, whose portrait appears in another place, was born in Summit county, Ohio, October 2, 1825, and was principally raised there; he came to this county in 1849, and located on his present homestead, which he entered, and now consists of 280 acres of well improved land; he was married March 21, 1858, to Miss Eden Metcalf, a native of England; he traces his ancestors, on his father's side, back to German origin, having resided in this country before the Revolutionary War; his maternal grandmother was the first child born in America of German parentage; he has held various township offices, and is now trustee; his mother resides with him, a lady well preserved of her age, which is now 86.
