McLAIN, NATHANIEL, farmer, Linn Township, Sec. 34; P. O. Lothrop; was born in Rockbridge county, Virginia, in 1822, and lived there till fourteen years old, then emigrated with his parents to Ohio, where he lived till October, 1849, when he came to this county; he married while in Ohio, Elizabeth Ritchebaugh, in 1844, a native of that State; they have a family of two sons and three daughters living: Harrison, Samuel, Phoebe, Mary A. and Sarah J.; has a farm of 157 acres; had one son, John W., he enlisted in the late rebellion under Captain Curran, in the Seventh Iowa regiment, and was discharged on the account of disability, and has since died.
