From February 14th to April 18th, 1918, the Advocate-Tribune newspapers, Indianola, Iowa, included caricatures on the front page entitled “Indianola People You Know” with little bodies, big heads, and tiny images around each person recounting their lives.

Proprietor of the Book Store two years, resident of Indianola since 1914…Born in Illinois; his first job in 1890 was in a coal mine in Monroe County, IA. Before quitting, he had worked his way up to the position of Mining Engineer. He was Mining Engineer of the State Board of Examiners for coal mines in 1902, 1903, and 1904. He was an engineer when he quit the mines in 1906. He is an ardent baseball fan….the boys all know him….He’s secretary of the Indianola Commercial Club….He was in the telephone business eight years.
