HAROLD FRANCIS WATSON
Dr. Harold F. Watson, professor of English in Simpson College, was born at Milford in Pike county, Pennsylvania., April 2, 1895, the son of John Calvin and Addie (Cole) Watson. He attended the public schools of Milford, Pennsylvania., and Yonkers, New York, graduating from the Yonkers High School in 1914. In 1918 he graduated from New York University, with the degree of bachelor of arts. Two years later he received the degree of master of arts from the same institution. In 1931 Columbia university conferred upon him the degree of doctor of philosophy.
Aug. 23, 1924, Dr. Watson married Martha Hoyt Tucker, daughter of Joseph Clough and Mary Jane (Clark) Tucker. Mrs. Watson was born at Warrensburg, Ill. Dr. and Mrs. Watson have two sons: Robert Francis, born Nov. 4, 1927, and Stuart Tucker, born June 6, 1930.
Dr. Watson has taught in Simpson college since 1924. Prior to that time he taught in New York university, Hedding college, the University of Maine and West Virginia University. Dr. Watson belongs to the Iowa Authors club, the Modern Language association, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Andiron club and various professional societies. He is a member of the Methodist church. His political ties are with the Democratic party. The Watson home is at 1061/2 North Howard street, Indianola.
