WENDELL MEREDITH TUTT
Wendell M. Tutt, business manager and treasurer of Simpson College, was born at Des Moines Oct. 6, 1906, the son of William J. and Maude E. Tutt. He graduated from West High School, Des Moines, in 1924. Four years later he graduated from Simpson college with the degree of bachelor of science in business administration. While a student at Simpson, he was editor of The Simpsonian for three successive years. From 1928 to 1930 he served as assistant cashier of the Nevada National bank at Nevada, leaving there to attend the graduate school of business administration, Harvard University.
June 19, 1934, Mr. Tutt married Mary Lois Simpson, daughter of Alexander N. and Ella J. Simpson. Mrs. Tutt was born March 30, 1906, at New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Tutt have two children: Wendelyn Sue, born March 4, 1940, and James Simpson, born Feb. 22, 1945.
Mr. Tutt was with the Central Life Assurance society from 1932 to 1935, and with the Weitz Investment and Realty company, Des Moines, from 1935 to 1943, leaving there to become office manager of the Fox Chemical company. Since July 1, 1945, he has been business manager and treasurer of Simpson College. Mr. Tutt is a member of the Indianola Rotary club, Masonic lodge, Indianola Chamber of Commerce, Des Moines Y's Men's club and the Methodist church. Since 1950 he has been chairman Southeast Iowa district, Y.M.C.A. From 1940 to 1947 he was a member of the board of directors of the Des Moines Y.M.C.A.; during the last two years of World War II he was salvage director, Office of Civilian Defense, Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Tutt live at 607 North C street, Indianola.
