ANDREW J. SIMMERMAN, farmer of White Oak township, was born Nov. 7, 1887. He is a son of John Harvey and Mary Jane (Stewart) Simmerman, who lived in Squaw Township. Nov. 5, 1913, Mr. Simmerman married Lela Vada Long, a daughter of James and Nancy Jane (Howe) Long. Mrs. Sim-merman was born in Clarke county Aug. 22, 1895. Mr. and Mrs. Simmerman have three daughters: Maurine Jane (Barnett), born Feb. 27, 1920; Elaine (Bum-garner), born Dec. 9, 1923; Aleine, (Harris), born Nov. 26, 1926.
Andrew J. Simmerman is a son of pioneer farmer and stockman of Warren County. His father, John H. Simmerman, was born and reared in Stark county, Ill. During the Civil war he enlisted in Company C, 3rd Regiment, Illinois Cavalry and received an honorable discharge at the close of the war. Following the close of the war, he came to Warren County, Iowa, where he bought 80 acres of land. As time and opportunity afforded, he added land to his original tract until at the time of his death in 1932 he had acquired around 1,000 acres. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Simmerman reared to maturity a family of seven sons and seven daughters. Most of the children and their descendants are still living in Warren County.
