MISS JENNIE SMITH
MRS. ROXIE MORROW
Miss Jennie Smith, Milo, has lived in Belmont township her entire life and most of it in Milo. Her sister, Mrs. Roxie Morrow, has always lived in Warren County. Mrs. Morrow has three sons, Floyd, Lyle and Wilbur, all of whom served in the United States navy during World War II.
Miss Smith and Mrs. Morrow are descendants of early settlers in Warren County. Their father, John Dixon Smith, was born in Warren County in 1855, the son of Jacob and Mary Smith, who came from Summit county, Ohio. In April, 1852, Jacob Smith bought land in section 16, Richland township, which is still in the family and is now owned by his son, Homer Smith.
Their mother was Sarah E. Wright whose father, William Adams Wright, came to Warren County early in 1849 before the town of Indianola was laid out. William Adams Wright purchased 280 acres of government land in Union Township in 1852. The following year he married Amy Hicks, born in Owen county, Ind., the daughter of Abel and Sarah Hicks, who were natives of North Carolina, but migrated first to Indiana and in 1852 to Warren County, Iowa, locating near Sandyville.
Sarah E. Wright was born in Union Township in 1858. Her paternal ancestors were soldiers in the Revolutionary war, and they were a part of the great westward movement, migrating from Virginia to Shelby county, Ky., during the early days of that state.
Miss Jennie Smith and Mrs. Roxie Morrow are members of the Methodist Church at Milo.
