FRED B. LOHMANN
Fred B. Lohmann was born in Hamburg, Germany, Aug. 4, 1872, and he came to America as a lad with his parents, Borgett and Amelia Lohmann. The Lohmanns first settled in Lyon County, Iowa, and later the family moved near Des Moines, where as a young man Fred B. learned the meat business. Then he went to Milo where he entered this trade with his brother-in-law, Henry Hinrichs. About 1894 he opened a meat market and butchering business in Carlisle.
Mr. Lohmann married Rosa Kiesel, who was born in Germany Aug. 9, 1875, and who some years later came to Indianola with her parents. Mr. Lohmann conducted his business in Carlisle for many years. During the early years he drove a horse-drawn meat wagon once a week to near by towns, such as Summer-set, Swan and Runnells. The Lohmans have one daughter Nelle L., who married Arthur H. Olson of Carlisle April 26, 1923. Mr. and Mrs. Olson were born May 15, 1893, and May 21, 1898, respectively. They have one daughter, Freda Phyllis, who graduated from Iowa State college in 1952.
Fred Lohmann enjoyed music, choosing the clarinet and accordian as his musical instruments. He was a good husband and father, a loyal neighbor, and was always ready to help others in their time of need. His cheery, jovial personality will long be remembered. In 1944 Mr. and Mrs. Olson presented in memory of her parents, a brick building to the P.M.C.K. S. American Legion post of Carlisle as a hall for the use of the legion, its auxiliary and for other community affairs.
The Olsons are members of the Methodist church at Carlisle. Mr. Olson is a member of Masonic lodge, the American Legion and the Farm Bureau. Mrs. Olson is a Gray Lady and belongs to the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekahs and the American Legion Auxiliary.
