JAMES WILBUR JONES
J. Wilbur Jones, owner and operator of the Jones Shoe store at Indianola, was born on a farm nine miles south of Perry March 24, 1906, the son of J. Frank and Viola M. Jones. After graduating from the Perry high school, he continued his studies at the Capital City Commercial college in Des Moines, Iowa. On July 20, 1933, he married Ruth W. Mendenhall, daughter of Oliver M. and Hattie Mendenhall. Mrs. Jones was born on a farm south of Newton July 5, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Jones have two children: J. Norman, born Sept. 20, 1940, and Jacqueline Kay, born Dec. 3, 1945.
Mr. Jones served as member of the board of education at Indianola for six years, being president of the board from 1947 to 1948. During World War II he was a member of the Warren County Rationing board, and was also active in the war bond drives in 1942. He is a member of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, being president of the organization in 1943. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Religiously he worships in the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Jones live at 909 North D street, Indianola.
