JOSEPH C. BARTHOLOMEW
Joseph C. Bartholomew, for many years sales manager for United Des Moines Clay company, was born at Palmyra Feb. 11, 1894, the son of Ezra and Ida (Willetts) Bartholomew. On April 16, 1920, he married Jesse Ellis, daughter of James and Margaret (Pilmer) Ellis. Mrs. Bartholomew was born at Norwalk Feb. 9, 1899. For 10 years she taught school in Warren and Polk counties. Since 1940 she has owned and operated the Carlisle Sundry store.
The Bartholomews are members of the Carlisle Methodist church. In politics they support the Republican Party. Mr. Bartholomew is a Mason and a charter member of the American Legion. During World War I he was in active service for almost 16 months. At the time he represented the United Clay company he sold the material used in the construction of the present courthouse of Warren County. Mr. and Mrs. Bartholomew live at Carlisle.
