The following men and women have been selected as typical of the outstanding recognition achieved by alumni of Simpson College in representative fields of endeavor:

SOCIAL SERVICE - Lena Hatfield (February 25, 1875 - August 28, 1927)
Lena Hatfield, at one time Physician Extraordinary to the royal family of China; graduate of the school of medicine of the University of Chicago; after graduation and internship in Chicago, went to Foochow, China, where she was in charge of one of the hospitals; recognized as one of outstanding medical missionaries of China; returned to America and had large medical practice in Chicago, being also associated in charities, died August 28, 1927; member of the class of 1895.
