Sunday, July 21, Uncle Nick Stickel for the ninety-sixth time, celebrated the anniversary of his birth. On this occasion he was surrounded by his children, grand children, great-great grand children and a few intimate friends. The day was spent on Walnut Creek, a birthday picnic dinner being served. The children and grand children who were with him on this occasion were: Miss Cyrene Stickel and E. P. Stickel and family of New Virginia, Mrs. Cora Bolyard of Des Moines, Mrs. Green of Milo, and Arthur Shaw and family of Milo, and Mr. and Mrs. John Bolyard and daughter, Melva and Mr. and Mrs. Fon Porter and son of New Virginia.
Uncle Nick was born in Louden County, Virginia in the year 1822, coming to Iowa in 1854, thirty-nine years later settling in New Virginia. He was married October 4th, 1846, his wife dying in 1901. He has six living children, 30 grand children, 46 great grand children and one great, great granddaughter. Three of the great grandchildren are in France fighting for Democracy and freedom. - The New Virginian
