WARREN COUNTY TRIPLE ALLIANCE CANDIDATES
Superintendent of Schools
Miss Nannie A. Peebler, of Liberty township, was the unanimous choice of the three conventions for this important office. Miss Peebler was reared on her father’s farm in Liberty township, this county and received the rudiments of a good, practical education in the country school of her neighborhood. Later she took a course at Highland Park college, Des Moines, where she graduated a few years ago. Since then she has taught several terms in country and city schools and has always maintained an enviable reputation as a successful teacher.
It is the prevailing opinion of the times and an opinion that is becoming more and more deeply rooted and grounded in the faith of the American people with each succeeding year of experience, that the education of our children is most safely committed to the hands of the noble women of our land, that in their hands this important trust is held most sacred and that by them is this sacred obligation most faithfully, most conscientiously and most successfully discharged. The last fifty years have witnessed a wonderful revolution in educational matters, and with this revolution we have the advent of women as teachers. They have been steadily supplanting men as our educators till they are now heavily in the majority. Experience has demonstrated the wisdom of this change. The triple alliance, embracing as it does the great preponderance of the progressive element of the county, it was but natural that it should manifest this progressive spirit in the nomination of a lady for office of superintendent of public schools.[Nannie A. Peebler, age 25, married Ernest H. Baldwin, age 38, on December 25, 1898, in Warren County, Iowa. Both are buried in Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, Iowa, Nannie (1873-1960) and Ernest (1870-1954).]
