A GATHERING OF THE PATRIARCHS
Mine host, A. P. Keeney, of the Madison House, the oldest landlord in Indianola, had a remarkable gathering at this popular hostelry on Christmas day. He invited all the prominent old widowers of this vicinity to eat a Christmas dinner with him. The patriarchial flock that answered the summons were a most interesting group of time-worn veterans.

ISAAC GARRETT was the oldest member of the venerable band. He is a native of Dutchess county, New York, where he was born April 14, 1790, making him almost 97 years of age. Time has impaired both his sight and hearing as well as his other physical powers; still his strength is remarkable preserved. He can walk about without assistance and help himself. He evidently enjoys a good dinner. He is, or was, a farmer by occupation, and for many years a resident of Michigan, though frequently visiting Indianola. For the last few years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Willet Carpenter.
