The Advocate-Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, Sep 17, 1885, p.3
[In Sep 1885, residents in Warren County were not happy with the Republican controlled county officials and formed a People’s County Convention to nominate county officials on a People’s County ticket. The following “biographical” information was written for those candidates]
Frank B. Taylor, the nominee for County Superintendent, is also an old settler. The present Editor of the Advocate-Tribune has lived in Warren county 21 years, but has not lived here nearly long enough to introduce Frank Taylor to the good people of the county. It is 31 years next month, since his father moved with this family from Illinois to this part of Iowa. He was a Presbyterian minister and preached alternately at Indianola and Palmyra. He also taught school in Indianola, being one of the first teachers in the county seat. Early in ’55 [1855] typhoid fever became epidemic and the father was one of its victims. Frank was thus left an orphan at the age of three years, and was early put upon his own resources, not only to earn his own living but to help maintain the family. He learned the plasterer’s trade, and by close industry with trowel and hatchet saved a little each summer with which to get an education in winter. He never rested until he had received a college education, graduating in ’76 [1876] with high honors. He has had several years experience as a teacher, a considerable portion of which was as principal of the East Des Moines High School. Then he became editor of the Advocate, and afterward of the Advocate-Tribune, resigning that place to his present partner two years ago. He is peculiarly qualified for the place, and is such time as the Republican party would be proud of if they had him in their ranks. Every one who knows him likes him.

Mr. Frank Taylor, Dean of the Jamestown College, of Jamestown, North Dakota, arrived Wednesday morning and is renewing old acquaintances. Mr. Taylor will be remembered as a long time proprietor of the Advocate-Tribune. During later years he has been connected with the college at Jamestown and has seen it grow from almost nothing to a million dollar institution.

Frank B. Taylor Here – You don’t mind reading a little about Frank Taylor when you remember that the writer and Frank Taylor were together in the publication of the Advocate-Tribune away back, yonder in the 80’s. For several years past Mr. Taylor has been dean of the university of Jamestown, N.D. – likes his work and has made good. When he walked into the back room yesterday it meant a holiday for “me,” of an hour or two and the visit was mutually enjoyable. Dean Taylor had been to Iowa City to visit one of his daughters and will go to Omaha today to visit another daughter before returning to Jamestown to take up his school work. He was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Johnson while here, but also found time to renew the acquaintance of many old time friends.
