Tom Darnell (1887-1946)

Tom Darnell was born on February 11, 1887 in Milo, Iowa to George S. and Minnie (McCormick) Darnell. Tom grew up in Liberty Township of Warren County, finished high school, and took two years of college. He worked as a deputy to the county Auditor in 1910 and became the Warren County Auditor in 1913. Tom signed up for the draft in WWI, but he was missing his left hand and arm half way between his elbow and wrist. His draft registration mentions that he was medium build, with blue eyes and dark brown hair. Tom worked as the county Auditor until 1920. Around 1923 he married Helen Smith and they moved around: in 1930 Kalamazoo City, Michigan, 1935, Chicago, Illinois, in 1940 Cheyenne City, Wyoming. Tom died in August of 1946, age 59, and is buried in Indianola IOOF Cemetery.
