It would appear that there is little relationship between Stehphen Dickerson and Robert Dickerson. Robert was born in Wisconsin and indicated that his father was either born in France or was French Canadian (depending on which census you believe), while Stephen was born in Indiana and indicated his parents were both born in Virginia (it shows the same on all census records).

There were numerous unrelated Dickerson families in both Wapello and Mahaska counties in those days and, for that matter, still are.

BTW in a couple of census records it shows Robert's name as Robert R. Dickerson.
