The dates indicate that this is not the same James Kelly(and my ancestor seems to have come here because of relatives of his wife(Mary Tierney), in Mt. Pleasant....what follows is all we know about this era of my family's history in Ottumwa & Mt. Pleasant:
Children of James Kelly Mary Tierney:
(there were 6 others that died in infancy or early childhood).........

Frank

Carroll

Clara

Jane

Mary

John

George

Maximus (Maximus Vincent, My greatgrandfather)

We have the "civil" record of James' & Mary's marriage which took place in Mount Pleasant on Sept.15th, 1856.(?what church?) We are not sure of the birthorder of the children. The family relocated to Ottumwa after the birth of a couple of the older children. Mary Tierney's mother also came with Mary when she moved to Iowa. The mother died before James&Mary moved to Ottumwa. She had remarried&was probably buried as Mrs. (??) Bradish......Mary Tierney(b. 1836) had a younger brother, John(b.1846-or-'47)who eventually caught up with his sister in Iowa .

He reportedly married a Mt. Pleasant girl and accompanied the Kellys in their move to Ottumwa. We beleive that they were based in Ottumwa for about 30 years, at which point they sold whatever property they owned there(The Quarry?,A house?).

We have located the burial records for James Kelly & Mary Tierney. They died in Davenport(James,1914);(Mary,1907). They are buried at Old St. Marguerites(now Calvary)......

At this point we'd be interested in finding out if there are baptismal &burial records for any of the Kelly or Tierney children, as well as any records of property ownership and/or business endeavor resulting from the Kellys' or Tierneys' residency in Ottumwa for the period between about 1860>1890......How would I go about searching the civil records to find out more?

John Tierney is said to have lived to the age of 55, which would mean a DoD. of about 1901>1902....We have a letter indicating that he had 4 children: Agnes , Elizabeth, Katherine, and Johnny. We are not sure how long they remained in Ottumwa or whether any of his children settled there. His widow apparently remarried and moved to St. Louis......
