Dear Margaret:
What you are referring to is the publication of names of the elderly that were on OLD AGE ASSISTANCE program in the l930 - l940 time period. These records are now going on 65 years ago and are buried away in the courthouses of Iowa. In researching for 28 years I have never seen any publication of names in any newspapers. It would be private information just like you do not see the many $$$ paid out to unwed mothers today living off the government published in a paper. I know my own grandparents received Old Age Assistance in Des Moines County, (Burlington) Iowa before they died.
Those were hard times after the depression.
