OTTUMWA -- Harold W. THOMPSON, 85, of 556 S. Moore St. died at 6:45 p.m. May 4, 2002, at his home.
He was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Columbus, Neb., to Alvin and Ida MERRILL THOMPSON. He married Mary Jane MASCARO Dec. 25, 1937. She preceded him in death March 28, 1980. He married Jeanne OSBORNE Feb. 14, 1982. She preceded him in death in June 1992. He married Irene CASSILL Oct. 16, 1999.
Surviving are his wife; five sons, Gerald of Geneso, Ill., Daniel of Draper, Utah, Frank of Polo, Mo., Dean of Canton, Mich., and Stan of Ottumwa; two daughters, Christine DOWNEY of Berthoud, Colo., and Janet LINEBAUGH of Ottumwa; two stepsons, Albert BARWICK of Agency and Dwayne CASSILL of Cedar Rapids; three step-daughters, Glenda HOBBS of Scottsdale, Ariz., Deborah DEJOUGH of Canon City, Colo., and Sherry MILLER of Ottumwa; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; 27 step grandchildren; 28 step great-grandchildren and a sister, Clementine BREON of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a son, Curtis THOMPSON; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; a stepson, Arthur BARWICK; a stepdaughter, Echo JACKSON; two brothers, Leonard and Elmer THOMPSON; and four sisters, Emma LOONEY, Maxine KARL, Bernice SIMMONS and Laurina BARNETT.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Masten officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. today (Monday) in the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Pallbearers will be his sons, Gerald, Dan, Frank, Dean and Stan THOMPSON and sons-in-law, Jim LINEBAUGH and Dean DOWNEY.
Memorials have been established to Bethany Baptist Church or Hospice Inc.
