OTTUMWA -- DEVERNE HOUK, 62, of 909 Boone Ave. died at 11:18 p.m. May 3, 2002, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born June 28, 1939, to GEORGE O. and BLANCHE D. SPARKS HOUK. He married IDA D. COX Jan. 17, 1959.

Surviving are his wife; five sons, TOM, JERRY, TODD, SCOTT and RANDY HOUK, all of Ottumwa,Iowa; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, GARY and STEVE HOUK, both of Ottumwa,Iowa; and two sisters, KAY JORDAN and VICKI WRIGHT, both of Ottumwa,Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, CONNIE LEWIS.

The body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held Lake Rathbun at a later date.
