Floyd Napier Dies In Navy Air Station Hospital, Suffered Stroke.
Floyd H. Napier, 45, electrical engineer in civilian services at the Naval Air station, died at 2 p.m. Monday at the station hospital where he had been treated since Friday morning. Navy doctors said that Napier had been slightly injured Friday morning when struck on the head by a part of a neon light fixture. He was given first aid and had returned to work they said, when he suffered a stroke. He formerly had maintained, an electrical contracting business known as the Napier Electric Service at 821 West Second street, and for years had taken care of electrical services required by the City of Ottumwa and the Ottumwa Park commission. He was born March 28, 1899 in Wapello county the son of Samuel and Flora Napier and had lived in his entire life in or near Ottumwa. A Veteran of World war I, he enlisted March 25, 1918 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, and was discharged from that service June 23, 1919, at Camp Dodge, after serving 11 months overseas, completing that service with the Army of occupation in Germany. He re-enlisted in the Navy shortly after his discharge and served with the Navy for two years at Pensacola, Florida. He was a member of the local post of the American Legion and of the I.O.O.F. No. 9. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Averil Napier and by the following children: Bonita Joyce, Aletha Irene, Len Blythe, and Allan Napier, all at home. He is also survived by one brother and the following three sisters: Mrs. Grace Dimmitt, Waterloo, Mrs. Edan Hendricks, Ottumwa, Mrs. Mae Bell, Grapevine, Arkansas, and Fred Napier, Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Napier who died September 12, 1944. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Floyd H. Napier of 821 West Second street, electrical engineer who died Monday afternoon at the Ottumwa Naval Air station, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed of the Willard Street Methodist church. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. Members of the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 9 and O.B. Nelson post No. 3 American Legion will conduct military service.
