Ottumwa Soldier Dies Of Gun Wounds
Private Charles L. (Jack) Hasting, 25, above, died of gun wounds received in a training accident at Camp Roberts, California, Saturday according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur F. Hasting, 1532 Mabel street. Private Hasting entered military service April 6, and had been at Camp Roberts ever since, serving in the infantry. He is survived by his parents, his wife, Maxine; three children Charles L. Jr. Jerry, and Jeanie, living on Birch street; a sister, Mrs. Violet Troutfetter of Ottumwa. The body is being returned to Ottumwa.
Funeral services for Private Charles L. (Jack) Hasting, who died last Saturday at Camp Roberts, California as the result of gun wounds received in a training accident, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. A.D. McClure will have charge of the services and burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery where military services will be held by members of the American Legion. Private Hasting was born February 4, 1919, in Ottumwa and had lived here practically his entire life, except for two years spent in Milwaukee just before he entered service. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maxine Hasting, and three children, Charles L. Jr., Jerry Lee and Beverly Jean Hasting. He is also survived by his parent. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur F. Hasting of Ottumwa and one sister. Mrs. Violet Troutfetter, of Ottumwa. Two sisters preceded him in death. The pallbearers will be Leo Monohon, Max Monohon, Scottie Monohon, Oscar Millhouse, Charles Johnson and John Callas.
