Guff W. Owens, 63, employee of the Ottumwa Iron Works, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday at Ottumwa hospital. His home is at 1002 East Finley street. The son of Joseph and Linda Owens, he was born at Downing, Missouri, January 15, 1881, but had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 18 years. Survivors include his wife May; four sons, Earl, of Rock Island, Illinois, Private First-Class Lester Owens with the Marine Corps, overseas, Winford and Clavey both of Ottumwa, four daughters, Mrs. Merle Herod, Ottumwa, Mrs. Armenta Zotz, Rock Island, Illinois, and Mrs. Bernice Eakins and Neta Owens both of Ottumwa, 10 grandchildren; three brothers David Owens, Centerville, Boone Owens, Des Moines and Henry Owens, Rockford, Illinois, and four sisters, Mrs. Stella Powell, Chicago, Mrs. Elsie Sparks, Cincinnati, Iowa, and Mrs. Doran Sparks and Mrs. Pearl Robbins, both of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Johns funeral chapel conducted by the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery.
