Engineer Dies After Ending Run
Charles L. Ross, 54, Ottumwa route 4, a Milwaukee railroad engineer, died about 6:30 a.m. today in Davenport. He suffered a heart attack after arriving there from Ottumwa with his train. Mr. Ross was well known in Ottumwa particularly in railroad circles. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and of the Milwaukee club. He also was a member of the First Christian church. He was born June 3, 1890 in Davis county, the son of Virgil and Sarah Ross. He is survived by his wife Judith, two sons, Private Charles Ross in the Army and Ensign Kenneth Ross, San Francisco, with the Pan American Airway; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Voland and Mrs. Verna R. McGraw of Ottumwa; and two brothers, Forrest Ross of Waterbury, Connecticut, and Edgar Ross of Ottumwa. The body will be brought to Ottumwa tonight and will remain at the Lester Jay funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Charles L. Ross, who died Saturday, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Lester Jay funeral home in charge of the Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. The pallbearers will be Lloyd Franklin, William Haseltine, Elmer Anderson, Lee Harness, Howard Ayers and Lloyd Frost.
