Elderly Ottumwa Women Are Dead
Mrs. Margaret Anise Burdett, 88, last of a family of 19 children, died at her home, 208 South Moore street, at 1:45 a.m. today. She had been a resident of Wapello and Davis counties her entire life and for the past 17 years had made her home in Ottumwa. She was the daughter of Adam K. and Sarah Howk and was born in this county October 21, 1855. She was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are three sons and five daughters. The are William K. Burdett, Ottumwa; Edward R. Burdett, Drakesville, Harry G. Burdett, Belknap; Mrs. Charles Schwartz, Ottumwa route 2; Mrs. Robert Lowe, Ottumwa; Mrs. Wallace Umbaugh, Hedrick; Mrs. Belva Spurgeon, Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Lyle Oiler, Ottumwa. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Her husband William preceded her in death in 1928. Funeral service will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in charge of the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
