Charles Ulmer, 83, Veteran Farmer, Dies
Charles Ulmer, 83-year-old retired farmer and lifelong resident of Wapello county, died at 4:30 a.m. today at the Ealkins nursing home. He was born August 5, 1860, on a farm south of Ottumwa. Survivors include his wife, Rose; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Ruffling, Ottumwa; a son, Francis Ulmer, Ottumwa, a son Francis Ulmer, Ottumwa, a brother, Henry Ulmer, Ottumwa; two sisters, Mrs. Tillie Hoffman and Mrs. Pauline Amelang, both of Ottumwa, and a granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Vaughan funeral home and at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s church, when the Rev. T.C. Donohoe will celebrate a requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of the Holy Name society and of the church parish will meet at the Vaughan home at 8 p.m. Sunday to recite the rosary.
