Fred Celania Is Called By Death
Fred J. Celania, 55, of 905 West street, died at 2:30 a.m. today at the Veteran’ hospital at Des Moines. He was born in Omaha, January 1, 1889, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Celania. He came to Ottumwa as a child with his mother, his father having died 10 days before is birth. He attended the Scared Heart school here and was married to Miss Elizabeth Burns in 1909. He operated confectionary and fruit stores in Ottumwa and Davenport. He enlisted in the Army medical corps August 15, 1918, and served at Camp Pike, Arkansas. He was discharged from the service February 7, 1919. Following the war, he entered the insurance business, representing a Kansas City firm here. Later he became a machinist and was employed at the Hardsocg Wonder Drill Co. until about a year before his last illness. He had been in poor health for several years but entered the hospital for treatment only last April. He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Charles Davis of Ottumwa; four sons; Frederick John of Ottumwa, Corporal Charles Celania in the Army at Las Vegas, Nevada, Corporal Joseph Celania of Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky, Corporal Donald Celania of Tucson, Arizona; a daughter, Jowan at home and a granddaughter, Marilyn Celania. The body was being brought to the Vaughan funeral home here today. Funeral services for Fred J. Celania, Ottumwa who died Tuesday morning at the Veteran’s hospital in Des Moines, will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Vaughan funeral home at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. celebrating a requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. There will be an American Legion service at the grave. Members of St. Mary’s church will meet at the Vaughan home at 8 o’clock tonight to recite the rosary.
