Burley F. Black, 59, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday at his home 263 South Moore street. The son of Joseph L. and Clarinda Black he was born February 13, 1885, in Jefferson county but had spent practically his entire life in Ottumwa. He was baptized into the Church of Christ at the age of 12. He served as an elder in the Church of Christ, Finley avenue and Adelia street for many years. For practically 35 years until a few months ago, he was an employee of the Johnston Lawn Mower Corp. Survivors are his wife, Lena, six daughters and a son: Mrs. Edith Conner, Mrs. Estella Tillotson, Mrs. Carolyn Carlo and Mrs. Georgia Shute, all of Ottumwa; Mrs. Ethel Saylor, Van Port, Oregon, and Mrs. Beulah Cage, Corcoran, California. Everette Black, Ottumwa. Also 22 grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Ella Mountain, Mrs. Zella Mullen, Mrs. Clistie Ingles and Mrs. Hazel Nelson, all of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary, Jenny and Mrs. Pearlie Rolison. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Church of Christ, Finley avenue and Adelia streets, conducted by Evangelist Ervin Waters of Ottumwa and J.J. McKaig, Huntington Park, California. Burial in Shaul cemetery. The casket will be taken to the church from Johnson’s chapel at noon Thursday.
