Fremont – Edward LaVerne Steel, 21, of Fremont, died at Red Oak at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. He had been residing in Red Oak. He was born May 12, 1922, near Fremont, the son of Alva and Lucy Steele, and the body was being brought to the Community funeral parlors in Ottumwa today. He is survived by his parents, several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Edward LaVerne Steel, who died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Red Oak, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fremont Baptist church. The Rev. Fred Cowles of Hedrick, assisted by the Rev. R.A. Reed of Fremont, will be in charge. Burial will be in Cedar township cemetery. He was the son of Alva and Lucy Steele and was born in Fremont, May 12, 1921. Besides his parents who reside in Fremont, he is survived by two brothers, Loraina and George Steele, both of Fremont; five sisters, LaRue, LaOra, Elnora and Mary Ellen Steele, all of Fremont, and Mrs. Maxine Strunk of Ottumwa; his grandparents, and a nephew, David Steele all of Fremont. The body was brought to the Community funeral parlors at Ottumwa.
