Archie C. Tharp, 64, veteran Ottumwa streetcar and bus operator, died at 1 a.m. today at the home of his brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tharp, 430 South Ward street, following a four-month illness. A resident of Ottumwa for the past 31 years, he had been an employee of the Railway & Light Co. and subsequent firms that had followed that firm in the streetcar and bus business of the city since 1917. Tharp was a member of local No. 199, the bus operators union. He was born in Davis county, Iowa, June 30, 1879 and is survived by two brothers, Frank and Roy Tharp, both of Ottumwa. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be fellow members of the bus operators union.
